“And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore,” (Isaiah 2:4 and Micah 4:3)
These verses are clear: peace begins with the people deciding for peace and taking action for peace. It is only after this commitment to peace is made that the nations make the same commitment. It is only when people who are deeply convinced that the God of shalom calls them to build a world of shalom begin to act that the nations will be forced to follow suit. “What if they held a war and no one came?” could become a reality.
This ecumenical effort calls on Christians to fast, to hold vigils and to spread the word on the realities of war and torture. Visit our Christian Peace Witness page to find out more about this important effort.
