BPFNA is pleased to welcome First Community Church (UCC), Dallas, Texas, as its newest Partner Congregation!
First Community Church describes itself as a 'just peace' congregation, and has adopted the following mission statement:
Our misson, through the grace of God, is to
open whatever is closed -
the church to all people,
hearts to God's love,
minds to God's story, and
lives to be instruments of change.
First Community Church is currently involved in a number of important activities, including:
- The raising of $100,000 to provide shelter, food, clothing and education for Iraqi war refugees and their children.
- An active campaign to present an unprecedented show of support for our US personnel in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere, through the offering of more than 100,000 prayers, letters and signs of support to those serving in the military.
- Taking a witness for peace to US Senators and Representatives by personally delivering the church's "Pastoral Letter on the Iraq War" to the in-district offices of these lawmakers.
Recognizing many common callings, First Community Church has recently broadened its ecumenical ties by formalizing relationships with the Alliance of Baptists and the BPFNA. Pastor Ed Middleton is already informing congregants of BPFNA's upcoming 2008 conference near Montreal, and we look forward to the opportunity to welcome some of the First Community Church family there next summer.
