This Thursday and Friday, June 19-20, Bob Spinks, Evelyn Hanneman and Johnny Almond will represent BPFNA at the 18th annual Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) General Assembly in Memphis, Tennessee. The Peace Fellowship will be in Booth 105 at the Resource Fair.
BPFNA has had a presence at CBF for several years, but this year marks the organization's first time hosting a Peace Breakfast as an auxiliary event at the assembly. BPFNA board president Steve Jones will lead the program. The keynote speaker will be Rev. Charles Duplessis (pictured), pastor of the Mount Nebo Bible Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana, who will share a word about the important work of the Churches Supporting Churches program and its continuing efforts to repair, restore and rebuild churches and communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Several BPFNA Partner Congregations have partnered with New Orleans congregations in this work.
Those attending the CBF assembly are encouraged to make plans to be at breakfast Friday, June 20, at 7:00 a.m. in Room L-2 of the Memphis Cook Convention Center. The cost is $20 per person. Reservations can be made through Wednesday, June 18, at www.bpfna.org/breakfast or by calling Kathy Coogan in the BPFNA office at 704/521-6051. Tickets will be available this Thursday at Booth 105 in the CBF Resource Fair.
The BPFNA Peace Breakfast is a long-standing tradition at the biennial meetings of the American Baptist Churches USA, and BPFNA is excited to be able to offer it now at the CBF assembly to help spread the word about the work of peace and justice. Those unable to come or unaffiliated with CBF are asked to support through prayer this effort to establish an increased presence for BPFNA at the CBF annual gathering.
