BPFNA Program Director LeDayne McLeese Polaski will lead a Friendship Tour to Tijuana, Mexico from January 21-29, 2012. The group requests your prayers for safe travels and a successful trip, in which they hope to gain a deeper understanding of the complex issues and to develop new and lasting relationships.
Called Ministry on the Borderline: A travel course opportunity for seminarians, the tour is held in conjunction with Palmer Theological Seminary which offers course credit to its students for this between-semester class. The group will be hosted at Deborah’s House, a shelter for women and children escaping domestic violence where BPFNA board member Adalia Gutierrez-Lee and her husband, Ray Schellinger work. Both are American Baptist missionaries.
Ministry on the Borderline will focus on issues including cross-cultural barriers such as: language (English-Spanish), religious traditions (Roman Catholic-Protestant) and cultural perspectives (US- Mexican); economics and immigration; and the function of family/community and the dynamics of violence and family resilience.
