Charlotte, NC - May 26, 2015 - BPFNA ~ Bautistas por la Paz welcomes Hortensia Azucena Picos Lee to the BPFNA staff as the Spanish Resource Manager! This is a new, part-time position that will focus on editing Spanish materials, translating English materials for Spanish-speaking audiences (primarily in North and Latin America), and assisting fellow staff in communicating with Spanish-speaking partners and congregations. Hortensia will officially start in this position on June 1, 2015.
"We are very excited to add Hortensia to our staff team," said BPFNA Executive Director LeDayne McLeese Polaski. "Her coming on board completes the new staff configuration we envisioned in our strategic plan for 2015-2019 No Longer Strangers: Crossing Borders for Peacemaking. This new position will be an enormous gift as we work to deepen our partnerships with Spanish-speaking individuals and churches. Hortensia is immensely qualified for the work and deeply passionate about our mission; she will be a wonderful addition to our staff, and we all look forward to working with her."
A native of Mexico, Hortensia holds a B.S. in Computer Sciences from Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Tamaulipas (IEST) in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She has worked as a Spanish and technical editor for a variety of organizations throughout the years and currently works as a freelance language translator and writer.
"I am excited and honored to join the BPFNA staff," said Hortensia. "I was raised in a Mexican Christian family with strong Baptist roots. As a Christian I seek out opportunities that allow me to use my gifts and skills for the service of God’s people and mission. I consider this position with the BPFNA to be a wonderful opportunity to live up to this commitment. The mission of the BPFNA deeply resonates with my Christian understanding of who God is and calls us to be: peacemakers, who work incessantly to bring God’s justice and peace to all of God’s children."
