April 2016 - Baptist Peacemaker was honored again this year with two Best of the Christian Press awards from the Associated Church Press (ACP). The awards were announced at ACP’s April 2016 annual convention and awards banquet in St. Louis, MO.
Each year, ACP judges choose winners in some 75 categories from Christian publications for their best work in the past year.
This year, Lizzie Lewis’ sermon from BPFNA's 2015 Summer Conference, Judging by the Heart, received an Award of Excellence in the Devotional and Inspirational short-format category for all media.
The judges wrote: "Lizzie uses her personal experiences to point out the harm that judging others can do to both the receiver of assumptions and the giver of judgment. She simply puts, and emphasizes through religious text, that judging others based on their appearance or achievements hinders humanity's progression."
Katie Cook also received an Honorable Mention for her prayer, To the One Who Stilled the Storm, in the Theological Reflection short-format category for all media.
The judges wrote: "Poetic, timely and sage, this exquisite prayer encompasses all while bringing a favorite Bible story to contemporary life in the peace, purpose, and power of Jesus’ Name.…This is a prayer to print out and keep nearby."
These writings, both of which were printed in the Oct-Dec 2015 issue of Peacemaker, were chosen from hundreds of entries from internationally acclaimed publications.
