New dates announced for the next Global Baptist Peace Conference

February 27, 2018 | Originally scheduled for 2018, the 6th Global Baptist Peace Conference has been rescheduled to 15-20 July 2019. The location remains in Cali, Colombia. The gathering will also serve as the annual Summer Conference of BPFNA ~ Bautistas por la Paz. Focused on the theme Peace in Our Land: Toward a World Without Violence (based on Micah 4:4), plenary sessions, workshops, and trainings will provide the resources to ignite more of the regional and grassroots movements for peace that earlier Global Baptist Peace Conferences have inspired. The conference programme will also highlight the Colombian peace process as a model for ending long-term low intensity conflicts around the globe. Read more »

Interfaith Coalition Issues Statement on Parkland School Shooting and Call to Action

February 19, 2018 | On Wednesday, February 14, seventeen lives were taken from this Earth at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. We mourn this loss of life, and the transformation of a place of learning and community into a site of death and destruction. To the dead, the injured, and the hundreds of family members, friends, and communities that are grieving, we commit our prayers and our tireless action to prevent gun violence. The shooting in Parkland is the 30th mass shooting since the beginning of the year, six weeks ago. No other country in the world tolerates this level of deadly slaughter. Gun violence shames this country daily. Read more »

Reading the Bible in Rome: A Pastoral Letter at the Beginning of a New Year

Reading the Bible in Rome: A Pastoral Letter at the Beginning of a New Year

January 10, 2018 | Not too long ago, I got an email from my colleague Katie Cook that simply said, “I know too many people.” I knew exactly what she meant. Everywhere in every way people we know and love are threatened, are dying. Hurricanes, earthquakes, and wildfires; the end of DACA; a rising tide of white supremacy encouraged and embraced by our own empire; tax policies with the purpose of creating poverty so as to insure wealth; women and girls abused on the streets, in our workplaces and in our homes; a state with an unchecked mandate to imprison and execute; the termination of protective status for immigrants from Nicaragua, Haiti and El Salvador. Everywhere we look we see the same violent brew of religion and state willing to offer up any “other” for sacrifice. The veil has been pulled back and the ugliness revealed. Of late, all my Bible reading feels likes reading the Bible in Rome.  Read more »

Practicando Amor Valiente

Practicando Amor Valiente

Read more »
