Bishop Samuel Ruiz Dies, BPFNA to Be Represented at Funeral

January 26, 2011 | Samuel Ruiz, a liberation theology Catholic bishop who did a great amount of work with the poor, mediation with Zapatista rebels and was nominated many times for the Nobel Peace Prize, has died at age 86. BPFNA board member Karen Turner, on an extended stay following a Friendship Tour to San Cristobal de las Casas, will represent the Peace Fellowship at Ruiz\' funeral this week. Read more »

Prayers, Observation Urged for Sudan Referendum

January 8, 2011 | Baptists around the world are being urged to pray for the people of south Sudan as they vote to decide on declaring their independence from the rest of the country. The reference, scheduled for January 9 to 15, is expected to see participation from as many as 3.9 million registered voters. Read more »

BPFNA to Offer Conflict Transformation Training at ABC Biennial

January 8, 2011 | BPFNA will teach the fundamentals of Conflict Transformation in its "Waging Peace" workshop, offered as part of the American Baptist Churches pre-Biennial events, June 23 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Evelyn Hanneman, BPFNA\'s Operations Coordinator and the facilitator for this training, says, "Conflict is a part of our lives, whether close to home or in a war fought overseas. Since we are called by Christ to be peacemakers, we need to learn the skills necessary to work for peace." Read more »
