September 17, 2010 | On August 28, 2010, Churches Supporting Churches presented a community forum on mental health issues in the city of New Orleans. Entitled ìThe Community Speaks: Whoís Listening?î, the forum featured a panel of experts speaking and answering questions on mental health. Scheduled to coincide with the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the forum acknowledged the ongoing challenges created and exacerbated by the storm and its aftermath. Read more »

AIDS Workers from Allen Temple Church Arrested in Zimbabwe

September 17, 2010 | Members of Allen Temple Baptist Church, a BPFNA Partner Congregation in Oakland, CA, were part of a group arrested Sept. 11 while working with AIDS patients in Zimbabwe. They were freed on bail later in the week and are scheduled to appear in court there later this month. Read more »

Hector Villanueva: Update on CBF Hispanic Network Pastor

September 4, 2010 | Hector Villanueva, a pastor in the Hispanic Network of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of North Carolina, recently applied for US citizen. As a result of the required background check, Villanueva was arrested Thursday, August 19, and now faces deportation based on a 15-year-old worthless check conviction for which he served his sentence. Alliance of Baptists Praises Marriage Ruling; Mohler Fears Effects on Liberty

August 30, 2010 | A progressive Baptist group released a statement Aug. 10 praising a federal judge for upholding both marriage equality and religious freedom by declaring a California ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional. But a conservative Southern Baptist seminary president said that, while US District Judge Vaughn Walkerís Aug. 4 ruling paid legal lip service to religious freedom, it may ultimately undermine the freedom of Christians who oppose gay rights.
