Johnny Almond joined the BPFNA staff in February, 2004. His background includes more than ten years' experience in radio broadcasting, in on-air and technical roles. When corporate consolidation greatly altered the landscape of that industry in the 1990s, Johnny found new work with the North Carolina Guardian ad Litem Program, a state agency with a mandate to provide advocacy for abused and neglected children. During his eight years with the agency, Johnny provided office management, database administration and technical support, while also producing promotional materials and working to help recruit and train volunteers for the program.
As BPFNA's Communications & Technology Manager, Johnny's work includes the design and layout of the organization's printed materials, handling media relations and serving as editor and administrator of the BPFNA website. He also maintains the organization's computer network and manages technical facilities for the annual Summer Conference.
In addition to his work at BPFNA, Johnny is part-time Music Minister at his home church,
First Baptist Church, Mount Gilead. He is also president of the
Mount Gilead Community Concerts Association, president of the
Stanly County Chorale, a board member of the Piedmont Arts Guild, and director of the Mount Gilead Community Choir. In his spare time, Johnny enjoys designing and installing audio, video and lighting systems, doing location sound reinforcement and recording work, and dabbling in photography.
