January 14 – May 31, 2019
Peace Community Church is an American Baptist church located in the progressive, beautiful college town of Oberlin, Ohio. We seek a ¾ time pastor to lead our small, but active and social action-oriented congregation in new directions as we confront challenges of our day seen through a prophetic lens. We seek a pastor concerned with issues of social justice and nurturing our vibrant, loving church family. We are rooted in American Baptist life and are nourished by many Christian traditions.
In our congregation, We Believe…Jesus loves EVERYONE…Love is Love…BLACK LIVES MATTER…Science is Real…Women’s Rights are Human Rights…NO HUMAN IS ILLEGAL…Water is Life…KINDNESS IS EVERYTHING!
We are an inclusive congregation and earnestly embrace the call of Jesus to seek God’s Realm. We work to bring peace and justice to our world. We gather to worship and praise God and build a community of harmony, joy, and celebration, and to pray and care for one another.
Current pastors, Mary and Steve Hammond, will retire on July 1, 2019, after 40 years as pastors of our church. Our church is very involved in BPFNA ~ Bautistas por la Paz (the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America), the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists, the Alliance of Baptists, and the American Baptist Churches of the Rochester/Genesee Region. We now seek a ¾ time pastor to continue the socially progressive tradition that has characterized this congregation for so long. Preaching, multicultural sensitivity, spiritual growth, and educational opportunities are other priorities that we value.
