November 10, 2014 | As a member of an organization called Pennsylvania Interfaith Power & Light (one of 40 state chapters in the national organization Interfaith Power & Light, a religious response to climate change), I am always looking for ways to encourage people of faith to act to stop climate change. Last spring, UBBC offered the film series by Jim Wallis called "Justice for the Poor" and Ken Kline Smeltzer challenged us to think of ways that we could do something to help the poor. Read more »

November 10, 2014 | Recently Seattle has been touted as the fastest growing city in the US. We also may be “the slowest going!” Gridlock is not uncommon in Seattle, and although we have been known for being environmentally aware, our driving patterns don’t reflect that. So, when Earth Ministry, the Washington non-profit leader in engaging the religious community in environmental stewardship and advocacy, asked our congregation to participate in the CARE MORE, Car Less Pledge project, we decided to step up. Water in the Desert

August 4, 2014 | In the occupied territory of Gaza, 92 percent of the water is unfit for human consumption. The congregation of Watts Street Baptist Church in Durham, NC, hearing of the need for safe drinking water for children in Gaza, embarked upon an effort to help address that need. Read more »

Equal Exchange at United Church of Granville

April 29, 2014 | I love our Equal Exchange (EE) project. We sell once a month after church on communion Sunday, which is also the Sunday we gather together to make 250 bag lunches to deliver locally for our Lunches on the Square program. Read more »
