The Truth Commission on Conscience in War
has scheduled the release of its public report this week in Washington, DC. The report, which is the culmination of a series of hearings held this year, will be delivered to the public and press November 10-12 during a three-day series of events scheduled around the observance of US Veterans Day.
The Commission will host a press conference Wednesday, November 10, at the National Press Club, and the report will be released to the public on Thursday, November 11, at an event featuring guest speakers Rev. Dr. James A Forbes, Jr. (pictured right) and Rev. Mpho Tutu (left). A day-long "teach-in" on conscientious objection will be held on Friday, November 12.
The Commission is led by Faith Voices for the Common Good
and its director, Rita Nakashima Brock. Brock has been a leader at two recent BPFNA Summer Conferences – 2007 in Berea, Kentucky, and 2009 in Ogden, Utah.
The Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America has co-sponsored the Commission, which was launched on March 21, 2010 at a powerful public hearing at the historic Riverside Church in New York City. BPFNA founding director Ken Sehested served as our Commissioner
at the hearings.
Evelyn Hanneman, BPFNA's Operations Coordinator, will participate in the press conference and attending all of the events on behalf of the Peace Fellowship. She encourages all BPFNA members and friends in the DC area to attend all or part of this week's Truth Commission activities.
