Here I Am, Send Me

It is with immense pride and “Jesus Joy” that I submit our reignited monthly newsletter, Passing the Peace! You can subscribe at the bottom of our homepage, www.bpfna.org.

From the outset, I would like to thank each soul who has personally welcomed me via electronic warm greetings, conversation exchanges, and invitations to preach and address our respective fellowship. I did not know I needed your welcoming so profoundly as God’s co-creators of encouragement, especially serving as your first Black American director in our more than 40-year history. I find myself thrusted into a call, and a dream that I did not know I could dream, from our God of reconciliation with great humiliation… “Here I am, send me.”

I welcome the many challenges that have been set before us in what it means to stay connected via in person, airwaves, and the internet. I welcome the challenges to invite us to recommit our monthly contributions for us to remain steadfast in pursuit of peace rooted in justice ‘til Jesus comes. I welcome the challenges to our commitment of what it means to be welcoming and affirming as we expand our borders to eradicate our barriers. God still has called us for a time such as this. And I and/or our staff will call you in this very time!

Be on the lookout for our Baptist Peacemaker quarterly digest. Be on the lookout for phone calls for us to have a peace-to-peace exchange. Be on the lookout for me in a town near you. And if you feel compelled to welcome me in your physical and spiritual space—here I am, send me!
