Reimagining Peace: A Path to Solidarity

And the one who was seated on the throne said, ‘See, I am making all things new.’
— Revelation 21:5

Our theme invites us to broaden and deepen our understanding of solidarity in light of biblical hope. Traditionally, we have understood solidarity as a human commitment to others in the pursuit of justice, dignity, and equality. We affirm that this call remains essential. However, our scripture (Revelation 21:1–5) calls us to dream of something even broader: a renewed creation, where God makes all things new and dwells among his people.

Throughout history, colonial logics have promoted domination, exclusion, and the severing of the bonds between human beings, the spiritual realm, and the earth. In a world marked by colonialism, exclusion, and ecological crisis, we affirm that the peace announced in the Book of Revelation is an active promise of restoration, where weeping, injustice, and death do not have the final say.

From this perspective, solidarity is reimagined as a holistic relationship that encompasses not only humanity, but all of creation as a sacred and interdependent community. This call challenges us to listen to and recognize spiritualities—particularly those of Indigenous and colonized peoples—that have affirmed, for generations, that the earth is not a resource to be exploited, but a shared home upon which life itself depends.

Reimagining solidarity involves rebuilding community through memory, deep listening, and shared responsibility. It means daring to unlearn practices and theologies that have legitimized exclusion, and embracing an incarnational spirituality that affirms that we are part of sacred communities.
